My Story

Hi, I'm Carrie.

I have 19 years of experience designing and developing instruction for learners of all ages.  My natural passion for exploration has taken me on geographic travels across the Americas as well as intellectual journeys through curriculum design. My strong writing background paired with my insatiable love of learning sent me on a path to become an instructional designer.

My Instructional Design Journey

I have a strong foundation in K-5 educational curriculum development using Understanding by Design (Backward Design). As a professional development leader for the International Baccalaureate Organization and as a schoolwide gifted program specialist, I have designed, developed, and implemented in-person, blended, and virtual instruction for adult learners. In 2021, I decided to develop my instructional design skills for a career outside of K-12 education. I earned instructional design certificates from Tim Slade's eLearning Designers Academy and Eduflow Academy.  While building my design skills, I volunteered as an instructional design team member for the nonprofit organization, Teaching: A Path to L&D (TPLD). I developed modules for a self-paced eLearning course that helps teachers transition into careers in Learning and Development.

From Art Educator to Freelancer

Throughout my career transition of the past two years, I taught virtual and hybrid classes, moved to a new city, and pioneered a visual arts program at my local elementary school. I developed and implemented conceptual curriculum units that use differentiation to meet learner needs and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).

Currently, I freelance as a curriculum writer and content editor for educational publishing and content creation providers. I am skilled in eLearning course creation and revision using Articulate 360, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud.
